Carrick Program - Spring Break Bash!

On Wednesday, March 2nd, South Carrick RA Mia Mitchell and North Carrick RA Elijah Lightfoot put on a substance abuse education program called Spring Break Bash in the South Carrick TV Lounge.  North and South Carrick residents enjoyed non-alcoholic margaritas and strawberry daiquiris.  Each drink was served with educational alcohol awareness facts.

The goals of this program were to encourage residents to engage in safe and healthy lifestyles, develop personal and social skills with one another, and link them with their floors.

Alcohol fact sheet distributed with the non-alcoholic drinks.

After enjoying their beverages and learning about alcohol facts, everyone walked over to HYPER together to go rock climbing on the rock climbing wall.

Great job, Mia and Elijah!

West Side RA of the Month for January - Lindsey Marlin!

Congratulations to the West Side RA of the Month, Lindsey Marlin!

Let's hear what Lindsey's nominator, South Carrick Hall Director Amanda Koch, had to say about her:

I would like to nominate Lindsey Marlin for West Area RA of the Month for the month of January. For the month of January, Lindsey has gone above and beyond in many of her job duties. Seeing as we have 4 new RAs on the South Carrick Staff, Lindsey has done an exceptional job helping those new RAs transition into the new position, new staff, and new responsibilities. She puts in extra time behind the desk showing them procedures, going on hallwalks with them, and helping them when they have questions.

She has also gone above requirements in door decorations and bulletin boards. For January, she cut snowmen and individually hand colored each snowman for each resident, giving each resident their own unique snowman. She also hand-cut several components of her bulletin board.

Finally, Lindsey has been available to her residents, especially in one particular case of solving a semester-long roommate conflict. She met with each resident countless times, trying several solutions, and once a solution was determined, she went beyond her duties to make sure the residents were okay with the solution, even when one resident was no longer a resident of her floor.

Here are some photos of Lindsey's creative efforts on her floor:

Super cute snowmen door decs.

Very creative Tennessee snowflakes made out of coffee filters!

Great welcome back bulletin board!

Cute new year bulletin board.

Other awesome RAs nominated in January include:

Sara Knoll, Morrill
Jonathan Leach, North Carrick
Chris Porter, Reese

Congratulations to Lindsey, Sara, Jonathan, and Chris!

South Carrick Pie Your RA Program

On Thursday, October 14th, South Carrick hosted a program entitled "Pie Your RA" to raise money for Habitat for Humanity.  South Carrick RAs Lindsey Marlin, Elizabeth Miller, Adrianna Boghozian, Lauren Smith, Hannah Ashitey, Kristen Knight, Catherine Cheatwood, and Ashlyn White all bravely volunteered to be pied by residents that paid $1 per pie, plus 50 cents if they wanted chocolate syrup added to the pie.

This event was held in Presidential Courtyard, which was a nice, high-traffic area sure to attract a lot of visitors.  There was great publicity displayed to advertise the program.

This program was a fun and profitable way to raise money for a great cause.  Fantastic job, South Carrick ladies!

SCRA Spaghetti Night

The lovely ladies of the hall association of South Carrick, SCRA, hosted a Spaghetti Supper on Tuesday, September 28th.  You could smell the yummy aroma of the spaghetti from the lobby of South Carrick, and this brought lots of residents out to the event.  Dinner nights are a great way to bring out residents and allow them the opportunity to socialize with each other.

Wampus Cats in line to get their spaghetti!

Residents helping themselves to the food and refreshments.

SCRA set up tables with butcher paper and markers for residents to leave their names and room numbers.  What a cool idea!

There were lots of festive decorations!

Fantastic job, SCRA!

Submit Your Rock Photos

Did you know that if you paint the UT Rock, you can submit your photos to be posted online?  You can do so through this link:  http://www.utk.edu/therock/index.php
Thanks to South Carrick Hall Director Amanda Koch for this tip!

South Carrick RA Courtney Luna recently did a program with her residents to paint the rock.  Check out their work:

Awesome!  One of Courtney's residents, Brittany Radcliff, submitted this photo.

Nice work, South Carrick 9th Floor Knockouts!

Having a program to paint The Rock is a great bonding activity to allow your residents to connect to a UT tradition!
